I Hate Church

For those who met religion before they met Jesus.

Why I wrote it

Some people did not lose God. They lost us.

I kept meeting the same person. Different city, different story, same wound: they loved Jesus and could not walk back into a building. Somewhere along the way, religion arrived before relationship did.

I Hate Church is not a takedown of the church. It is a confession, an apology where one is owed, and an invitation back to the One the church was always meant to point to.

If you have been hurt, exhausted, or quietly done — this book was written with you in the room.

This book put words to things I've felt for years

For years I've loved Jesus but struggled with the version of Christianity I often experienced in church culture. This book somehow gave words to feelings I've been carrying for a long time. It doesn't tear faith down — it helped me see Jesus more clearly.

Uncomfortable in all the right ways

I picked it up expecting something reactionary. That's not what this is. It names real wounds without fueling cynicism. If you've loved Jesus but struggled with church, this book gives language without shame.

A holy sigh. Don't judge a book by its title.

It's provoking. It's challenging. It's honest. It speaks truth and love without bashing faith or diminishing the beauty of the Church. Humbling, yet hopeful. A must read.

I couldn't put it down

This book is phenomenal. It will awaken something inside of you that needs to be awakened. It challenged the way I think about church — we were made for love, and this book echoes the cry of my heart.

I found my heart in these pages

I finished reading and honestly found myself in tears. It speaks to the pain and confusion that can come from church experiences, yet never loses sight of a deep love for God. As I read, I felt seen.

For the ones who feel lost in the crowd

A life of addiction, suicide attempts, and time spent in a cell. I thought God was all but gone in my life. Reading his words shines a light on the very thing that saved my life.
